See below for an update form the Parents’ Association November monthly meeting
Highlights : 2014 Committee Objectives, GAA Final Winners, Shoeboxes, Parenting Course
The committee are busy working on their objectives for this year. Marjorie Boland (Chair) has identified Parental Involvement as an on-going objective for this year.
Our aim as a committee is to help provide the best possible educational experience for our children by encouraging parental involvement in our child's learning at home, at school and in the community through the Association's programme of activities.
This involves working closely with the staff to identify ways that we as parents can assist our children through their school years in Scoil Mhuire. We are working on various methods to accomplish this including: inviting guest speakers to discuss various educational topics; providing hints and tips to encourage and support your daughter with homework; assisting with attendance at school events; as well as sharing photographs to spread any good new stories in the school.
We are also finalising our calendar of events to include the Christmas raffle, Coffee/Book sale morning in February, Parents Social evening (May hopefully) , Family Fun day in June.
Fr. O’Connor has confirmed he date for First Holy Communion – 17th May. We do not yet have a date for the confirmation but it usually in May and we will let you know as soon as we have details.
Huge Congratulations to the GAA team made up of girls from 5th
class who won their Cumann na mBunscol final in Croke Park on the 4th
November. It was a fantastic occasion playing on the hallowed turf of Croke Park. The Parents Association sponsored the buses to bring the girls from 2nd
class to support the fantastic efforts of the girls on the pitch. Huge thanks to Ms. Chapman and coach Paul O’Brien for the work done to achieve this great win. (Check out the pictures on http://www.mountsackvilleprimary.ie/page20.php?view=thumbnailList&category=8
Let’s hope we can do the same when the Camogie competition gets going!!
Thanks to all those who attended our Cake Sale and Coffee Morning on 25th
October. We raised just over €750 for Cheerios Childline. We uploaded some pictures of the morning onto our photos page on the website www.mountsackvilleprimary.ie
We will be sending out a letter next week requesting the Family Contribution (€50) for this year. This contribution allows us to purchase items requested through the teachers wish list. Specific items such as books and recommended material relating to the National Numeracy and Literacy Strategy are top of the list for this year. We are also able to provide funds for items like bus hire for various sporting events, communion teas and coffees etc etc.
The Parenting course sponsored by our association with instructors from the National Parents Council has started. We hope those of you attending it are finding it useful and we would welcome any feedback you might have once you’ve completed it. We will continue to run this type of course as long as there is a demand for it - thanks to Paul Fallon and Frank Ward for co-ordinating.
There is no update from Board of Management as the last meeting was cancelled – we will update after the next meeting die to be held on November 25th.
Thanks to all the Parents who helped their children with the Shoebox appeal. Over 200 boxes were collected from the school this week and are making their way to those who need it most. Thanks to Ms. Finneran for organising.
