See below for the final update for this School Year from the Parents' Association meeting held on Tuesday 5th June 2012.
Don't forget the FAMILY FUN DAY on June 24th!!! See below for more details....
School Holidays on June 29th at 12.30. (6th Class will be finishing on Wednesday 27th June)
School re-opens on Thursday August 30th.
A new sub committee for Parental Involvement has been setup within the Parents Association in response to the National Strategy for Literacy and Numeracy.
The sub-committee is due to meet next week with a view to establishing its objectives for next year. Frank Ward has kindly agreed to head up the committee - thanks Frank.
In summary we will be looking at what we as Parents can do to assist our children's education - in conjunction with the staff and the wider community. We will keep you informed of progress as the subcommittee develops its plan.
This leads on to a timely reminder about the NPC Education Conference on this Saturday 16th Please follow this link http://www.npc.ie/npc/page.aspx?pageid=593 to see information on and book a place at their Conference entitled
“I can do it….But I need your help”
which will be held on Saturday the 16th of June in the National College of Ireland, Mayor Street, Dublin 1, from 11am to 4pm, with registration from 10.30am. This conference will explore how parents can support their child’s learning in a practical way and make a real difference in their child’s life.
Another part of the National Strategy for Literacy and Numeracy means that parents of children in 2nd, 4th and 6th class will receive a written record in the end of year school report of their child's score in the Standardised testing model (either the Micra T for English or Sigma T for Maths)
It is hugely important that the results of these tests are not discussed freely between the girls (or indeed between parents of girls). Report Cards are intended for you as parents. These tests are merely an indication of each child's ability in only 2 areas of their learning - it is not an holistic view of any child's level of learning. There have been anecdotes of children in previous years freely discussing what score they got - this is not a situation that the school encourages so please if you do discuss your child's score - encourage her not to discuss with other children - who may not have scored the same....
FAMILY FUN DAY - 24TH JUNE - 2-5pm
Please come along for a fantastic day out for the whole family. Bring your picnic (and the good weather we hope) and take part in the human FOOZ BALL, or the SUMO wrestling. There will be bouncy castles, obstacle course, face painters, penalty shoot outs for the parents so make sure you don't miss it.
2-5pm June 24th
Coffee Morning for LauraLynn foundation was a great success - over €600 raised. Thanks to you for your contributions.
Sponsored Walk - Almost €4800 raised. This money raised will be used to purchase new classroom furniture which we hope to have in place in 1-2 classrooms for the start of the next school year in September. It's fantastic to see all the improvements being made within the school as a direct result of all the fundraising that you contribute to. So once again Thank you
Congratulations to 2nd Class Communion girls and 6th Class Confirmation girls - both days were really special days for the girls and the families involved.
As always, if you have any questions or queries re: the above, please do not hesitate to speak to your class representatives or alternatively you can email in confidence to firstname.lastname@example.org
